Windows Update for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express gives error 6D9E

I stumbled upon this error when trying to update Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express to Service Pack 3. The problem was that I had compressed the installation folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server). Once I had that folder un-compressed, the update went fine.
